Sunday Programs for Children
Our church family spans several generations and we are blessed with children who share their energy, enthusiasm and creativity in the church services as well as in our separate Spirit Quest program. Considerations for class groupings are made every year to best meet the needs of the children. Various class groupings may include: Sunbeams for children of ages 3-5 years old; the Primary group for children in Grades 1-2; the Intermediate group for children in Grades 3-5 children and the Senior group for those in Grades 6-8. In some years, the Senior group merges with the Youth Group.
Sunday activities begin with all children in the worship service for a common 15 minutes, including an Up Front time with our Minister in which a theme often connected to the lesson for the day is presented with lots of participation from the children. The classes begin with a common social time including group songs and continue with study sessions for the separate age groups under the leadership of experienced volunteers.
Materials are taken from the Seasons of the Spirit resources (www.seasonsonline.ca) which include themes based on the scripture texts used in our worship services. Special events for the children through the year include carol singing for the residents of the Extendicare York nursing home, visits to places of worship of other faiths for the senior group, Advent and Lent special activity evenings, and an annual picnic and graduation Sunday in June.
