Our congregation is pleased to sponsor midweek programs of the Scouts and Guides through provision of space and resources and a program of involving groups in church activities including an annual Earth Day and Camping group service each spring.
2nd Lockerby Girl Guides
This active group of about 25 guides and 5 leaders meets weekly in the Heritage Hall. Programs include themes of working co-operatively and communication and opportunities to help with activities in the Sudbury community. Spring and fall camping, sleep-overs and assistance with the St. Peter’s Shrove Tuesday pancake supper and the annual service are regular features as well.
For further information, please contact Tanya Taylor, Guide leader, through the office administrator.
15th Sudbury Scouts
The Scouting program includes three groups - Beavers, Cubs and Scouts - which meet separately through the week. A new Canadian Path national Scouting program is being introduced this year, with modernization of the traditions of Scouting providing new opportunities for the groups. Activities include a Beaver Lodge sleep-over at the church, the annual Cuboree, this year at Cochrane, attended by about 20 cubs and leaders and the Rendezvous for Scouts and Girl Guides held in Sturgeon Falls over the Victoria Day weekend. Each group has camping opportunities through the year at local facilities. A modern Kub Kar track for racing Beaver Buggies, Kub Kars and Scout Trucks was donated to the group this year and affords the youth and leaders opportunities to explore the science and engineering behind the racing. All three groups attend and contribute to the annual Earth Day and Camping service each spring. An annual fundraising tea is held at the church in December and this year a fundraising and environmental project featured the Sudbury groups joining to plant tree seedlings at the former site of the town of Creighton, with support by Vale.
